A interdisciplinary Scholarships Essays project includes three closely linked work packages, each representing the topic of a doctoral thesis. In the first work package, POPs are measured in Alpine glaciers; in the second package, the flow of ice and the transport of POPs within the glacier are determined.Scholarships Essays In the third package data from the two other work packages are integrated in a chemical fate model.

Your work is part of the second work package, which targets at a comprehensive inventory of ice and pore water in selected glaciers in the Swiss Alps. The Scholarships Essays project includes on the one hand field experiments on glaciers and on the other hand computer modeling of ice flow in glaciers. This Scholarships Essays project provides a unique opportunity for a doctoral student to acquire experience in different scientific disciplines. The project partners offer a diverse and stimulating work environment. Equipment for field experiments and computing facilities are available, and links to leading international research groups are well established.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist interested in challenging work, keen to develop computer models, efficient in interacting with different research teams, and enthusiastic about the high Alpine environment. The Scholarships Essays successful candidate holds a master degree in geophysics, environmental or natural sciences with an excellent academic record and a strong background in glaciology and fluid dynamics. Fluency in English is mandatory and good knowledge of German is an additional asset. Ideally, the work begins in summer 2011. The workplace for this position is at VAW/ETH Zurich. Scholarship description: The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University has an ambitious development strategy that allows us to offer an excellent opportunity for a scholarship for doctoral studies. The scholarships pay UK / EU fees and provide a maintenance bond in connection with the rate of RCUK (£ 13.590 per year for 2011/12) for up to three years. Applications must be for those who are invited to pursue PhD in the field of materials research. The Law School at the University of Strathclyde invites applications for the award of a Campbell Burns Studentship. Who are the Europe and Liberty seminars participants?

Hundreds of students have already been involved with the Institute’s programs. The participants are junior, senior, or graduate students and recent graduates but they are also young scholars or entrepreneurs. They usually describe it as a week which had a tremendous impact in their intellectual life and which has proved helpful for careers in academia, law, journalism, and other idea-oriented fields. It is also a great experience from a personal point of view, since for a week, students and faculty members, coming from everywhere in the world, get to live together, to speak and to debate. They get to learn from each other and are in contact with different cultures, education and ways of life.

What happens during a Europe and Liberty program?

A traditional Europe and Liberty seminar lasts 6 days from. The day is divided into 3 sessions of lecture, discussion groups and discussions with the speaker. Every session lasts 2 hours and is followed by a coffee break, lunch or dinner. The week is an intensive week of lectures and discussions. After each lecture the participants break into small groups to probe and debate ideas they have just heard. A highlight of the seminar are the evening discussion groups; guided by faculty members, participants continue their exploration of the day’s themes. During the week, participants will have to interact constantly with each other and with the faculty members who not only lecture but join the participants for meals and evening discussion groups and socializing.

How can you participate in a Europe and Liberty Seminar?

The Institute has to make a selection among the great number of application forms it receives every year. The deadline for application is May 10. The Europe and Liberty selection committee members then meet and choose the candidates from the applications received.
