A interdisciplinary Scholarships Essays project includes three closely linked work packages, each representing the topic of a doctoral thesis. In the first work package, POPs are measured in Alpine glaciers; in the second package, the flow of ice and the transport of POPs within the glacier are determined.Scholarships Essays In the third package data from the two other work packages are integrated in a chemical fate model.
Your work is part of the second work package, which targets at a comprehensive inventory of ice and pore water in selected glaciers in the Swiss Alps. The Scholarships Essays project includes on the one hand field experiments on glaciers and on the other hand computer modeling of ice flow in glaciers. This Scholarships Essays project provides a unique opportunity for a doctoral student to acquire experience in different scientific disciplines. The project partners offer a diverse and stimulating work environment. Equipment for field experiments and computing facilities are available, and links to leading international research groups are well established.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist interested in challenging work, keen to develop computer models, efficient in interacting with different research teams, and enthusiastic about the high Alpine environment. The Scholarships Essays successful candidate holds a master degree in geophysics, environmental or natural sciences with an excellent academic record and a strong background in glaciology and fluid dynamics. Fluency in English is mandatory and good knowledge of German is an additional asset. Ideally, the work begins in summer 2011. The workplace for this position is at VAW/ETH Zurich.
